Well, Labor Day long weekend brought a whirlwind of events. I returned to Prince Edward Island, Canada for a second clinic, this time involving cattle and had a surprise visit to Peter’s Michigan clinic! Now let me just tell you, this trip to PEI was via JFK airport, so technically speaking I can now say I’ve been to New York. First off, the flight attendant says, “prepare for landing” as we are flying low over the flipping ocean with no land in sight! I am not afraid of crashing, not afraid of drowning but kept looking at that water wondering what would eat me! Blech!!! Next was waiting in the airport for 3 hours until my little plane takes me to Charlottetown.
As my dad says, everyone beats to a different drummer. Well dang, no wonder the New York symphony is so big! From the 80’s parachute pants and frosted highlights, to the 70’s sweat bands and track suits, up to fur coats, big sunglasses (inside of course) and stiletto heels, to this Buckarette in her hand-painted palm leaf flat brim hat and cinch jacket! 3 hours passed like 3 minutes. I know I picked my jaw off the ground a few times!
Once at the clinic, I am once again amazed and overwhelmed by the joyous people in PEI, from kids to adults, husbands to moms! This time around, I got to visit a bit more and truly love the people of that small island. My last dinner was with clinic hosts Ellen’s parents and what a feast! Fresh, ultimately fresh oysters, clams and scallops. I can still smell the feast and hear the laughter in the house.
The last of my trip was surprise one of Peter’s biggest clinics, Chelsea, Michigan. Rarely is my husband speechless, but I got him! I was deafened and choked by the screams and hugs of my BFFs that ride in that clinic! It was truly overwhelming and I thought I surprised them, but the true surprise was the kindness in all the riders introducing themselves to me and were so glad I came! The look on my husbands face, and the love I felt from old friends, I am a truly blessed cowgirl with so many strong women holding me up! I look forward to telling you stories of each and everyone of them through my blog.
I would like to mention this time around my friend Diane aka “sock girl” – her hug (or choke lol) was the best feeling in the world. Her sparkle and zest for life shines through everything she does and I could feel it in that hug! She is an amazing lady that is an occupational therapist, which in itself is a very giving job. Each time I see her, she’s smarter, prettier and just awesome! I always think to myself to try and emulate her big smile and sparkly eyes. She’s come along way and I love that I get to grow with her. My hat is off to you my cowgirl sister! You are a one of a kind!
Have a wonderful day today and try to picture a girlfriend in your life that has helped you grow. Send them a card, a quick text or pick up the phone and just say hi and thanks for being who you are! Cheers, my cowgirl sisters.
