What comes easy, won’t last. What lasts, won’t come easy.
Pops was always right. I sure do miss him and his quiet ways. He would watch me work horses for hours. And on frustrating days, he’d say “There’s always tomorrow kid”. He taught me…..no, he showed me through his life, his honesty, his loyalty and love of the horse. His big burly hands, scarred and calloused always had a soft touch when needed.
The older I get, the more I appreciate his ability to ignore the bad, the ignorant, the evil and stay true to his path. I can remember when I was very young, he was in a suit, no beard. He was on town council, trying to make things better. He never complained and he always tried to do better. One day, I hope to be as strong as he was.
