Spring has Sprung!

Spring has sprung and with the long winter across all of America, our new favorite color is green! I know we all have different planting zones but I couldn’t resist this weekend planting my garden. When I plant my garden, I plant all important items first, the ones that get me through winter, potatoes, onions, carrots, beets, squash, cabbage and cucumbers (pickles).

Next, I do my ranch clinic goodies like lettuce, green onions, basil, cilantro, parsley, and when our weather gets more regular, the tomatoes and peppers will go.

The fun thing I also do with my veggies is integrate them in my flower pots. Last year, I grew tomatoes on the deck in one planter with cascading petunias beside it as well as a planter full of basil. It creates wonderful smells, bright colors and is handy when you want to create bruschetta. My favorite summer meal!

This year I also have planted a few different varieties of garlic. Yum!

Keeping things simple and essential is my goal for gardening, and of course, when I weed or thin my garden nothing goes to waste. The chickens and pigs like the weeds!

Don’t live where you can have a garden? Get some planters that can sit on your porch or balcony. Plant lettuce, basil and maybe try carrots! Watching something grow and bloom is very satisfying and when you can then eat it, just makes fresh sound even more exotic.

I already showed you how to grow your own celery. The same goes for green onions! Show me your inner cowgirl gardener and get started today growing something of your own.

Feel free to post pics of your garden and tell us where you live. I would love to see where all my sisters garden!
